AbnLabs PlCoacher Screenshots
Actually PlCoacher supports three interface languages (English, Russian, German) that can be chosen and changed right in run-time.
Fig_002
PlCoacher Help (along with Tutorial) is available in two languages:
English
Fig_003
and Russian.
Fig_004
PlCoacher Help has Tutorial where all functionality of the application is explained step by step.
Fig_005
PlCoacher Help has the detailed description of all menu commands .
Fig_006
PlCoacher uses two formats for work with text files.
First file format (.mix)
Fig_007
has pairs of phrases in two languages (phrase in some language and its interpretation in another language)
Fig_008
Another file format (.txt)
Fig_010
Has ordinary text (without interpretation) where some words (the most difficult ones from the point of view of grammar or vocabulary) are marked (by angular brackets).
Fig_011
PlCoacher gives the possibilities to view these texts in some modes when user can view text in some different ways.
Fig_012
In the process of text viewing one can also mark the most difficult places (and work more intensively only with these marked places in future).
Fig_013
In some text viewing modes
Fig_014
at first a whole phrase is shown in one language,
Fig_015
then (when user presses some keyboard key) the interpretation of this phrase is shown.
Fig_016
In some modes
Fig_017
the interpretation phrase is shown not at once,
Fig_018
but gradually, step by step,
Fig_019
when user opens phrase with interpretation word by word
Fig_020
This way one can try at first to interpret the phrase mentally (in one’s mind) and then to check the interpretation with the suggestion (verification) that is given by PlCoacher.
Fig_021
The order (direction) of interpretation,
Fig_022
i.e. sequence of typing phrases at first in one and then in another language
Fig_023
can be easily changed.
Fig_024
This way one can work both at direct and back interpretation
Fig_025
There is a chance to simulate a synchronous interpretation, when at first a phrase in one language is shown
Fig_026
And then, after timeout, the interpretation of this phrase in another language is shown.
Fig_027
The simulation of synchronous interpretation also can happen gradually,
Fig_028
step by step,
Fig_029
when after each timeout one more word is typed
Fig_030
Timeout interval can be changed
Fig_031
for both types of verification phrase typing, i.e. when verification phrase is typed completely and when it is typed word by word after timeout.
Fig_032
Text viewing process happens in some iterations.
Fig_033
In first iteration all phrases will be shown.
Fig_034
For next (2-nd, 3-rd, etc.) iteration only those phrases that were difficult to interpret in previous iteration will be left.
Fig_035
The iteration process of text viewing goes on till all phrases are well learned, and there are no more phrases in current text to work with.
Fig_036
PlCoacher allows mark out the most difficult words by putting them into angular brackets.
Fig_037
The most difficult words can be marked out in both file formats.
In files with interpretation (.mix files)
Fig_038
As well as in files without interpretation (.txt files)
Fig_039
In view modes with opening brackets these marked words are hidden this way (for texts with interpretation)
Fig_040
or that way (for texts without interpretation).
Fig_041
One can try to enter the whole word that is hidden inside brackets.
Fig_042
This approach is good to learn the words spelling, or to learn prepositions, conjunctions, pronouns, etc.
Fig_043
There is also a chance to open brackets by entering only one letter.
Fig_044
This approach is rather useful when studying, for example, clause structure, etc.
Fig_045
The work with the opening brackets where the most difficult words are hidden also can be iterative.
In first iteration user is supposed to open all hidden words.
Fig_046
In next iteration only those hidden words that were not open in previous iteration are to be open.
Fig_047
This iterative process goes on till all hidden words are open.
Fig_048
Now you have the general idea about PlCoacher potential and functionality. More detailed description can be found in PlCoacher Tutorial and Help.
