INTRODUCTORY QUESTIONS

Q: What is PlCoacher main idea? Why it is useful to study foreign languages?

1) It helps you to make your work with linguistic texts more individual. Different people have different “difficult” places in text. PlCoacher allows you mark out these “difficult” places (whole words, part of words, whole phrases, part of phrases) and to work with them more intensively.

2) It saves your time, because with the help of PlCoacher you can work with texts (see text, check words spellings, study grammar, learn dictionary, learn texts by hart, etc.) paying more attention to these “difficult” places and skipping those places that are easy to you.

Q: Can I use PlCoacher to study English?

A: Yes, you can. You can use PlCoacher to study not only English but any other European languages.

Below is the general description of steps that you are supposed to do.

1) At first you should find yourself some texts that you are going to work with. It could be some linguistic and grammar exercises intended to work over some grammar or vocabulary items. It could be some texts from art literature that you are going to use, for example, to improve your spoken language or vocabulary. It could be some texts from art literature and interpretation of these texts. So you see that it could be very different type of texts.

2) Then you must edit these texts according to supported by PlCoacher text file format. This edition should not take you a long time because at that moment you have already main text.

Q: Can I use PlCoacher to study Chinese or Japanese languages?

A: General answer is no, because actually PlCoacher supports only simple text formats (that are used in European languages) and does not work with texts in such languages as Chinese or Japanese.

You can use PlCoacher however to study even such languages as Chinese or Japanese if you use European transcription for these languages (as, for example hiragana that is written in English alphabet in ordinary text format ).

Q: Does PLCoacher work only with those texts that are supplied with the application?

A: No, supplied text (first chamber of “Alice adventures in Wonderland” of Lewis Carroll in English and some other languages) is only illustrative material that can help you to get acquaintance with PlCoacher and evaluate its functionality.

PLCoacher supports open and simple text file formats so you can create any text you need yourself and then work with these texts using PlCoacher. PlCoacher gives you the effective tool to work with texts, but not texts themselves.

Q: What is the best way to get acquaintance with PlCoacher functionality and to understand if I can use it to study foreign languages?

A: First of all we recommend you to read Help item “Introduction into PlCoacher“. It won’t take you a long time to read this item because it has the most important screenshots that illustrate the work of the application. At this moment you will already have the general idea about what PlCoacher is for and how it can serve you to study languages.

If in this level of your acquaintance with PlCoacher you decided that it is what you need, then begin to read and do exercises from Tutorial (Part 1). This part is rather small and simple (6 short lessons), but after reading even these introductory part of Tutorial you will be already able to use PlCoacher as an effective tool in your language study process.

Go on reading Tutorial to get more useful details about PlCoacher functionality and use them in your practical work.

If your prefer to get more or less detailed acquaintance with PlCoacher functionality, then we recommend you to read all Tutorial and then to use the skills that you poses now in your practical work.

In any case (after reading all Tutorial or only some of its Parts) try to use the skills that you have now for the work with some texts that are supplied with PlCoacher. These texts are in folder

Chose some text in interesting for you languages and try to use PlCoacher functionality for viewing these texts.

Q: Is PlCoacher Tutorial intended to study English?

A: Absolutely not! With the help PlCoacher you can study any language. PlCoacher Tutorial is supposed to acquaint you with PlCoacher main ideas and available functionality on a very simple English text and interpretation of this text in some other language.

Q: I have modified by mistake some files in PlCoacher folder and the application does not work properly. What should I do?

A: It looks like you have changed (or even deleted) some files that are crucial for PlCoacher correct functioning. Don’t worry! To restore these deleted or modified files just reinstall PlCoacher and activate it. All required for PlCoacher normal files will be restored and you can go on working with PlCoacher.

Next time, please, be attentive to escape this discomfort. To escape this situation in future we strongly recommend our users create their own folders (for work with text files) outside PlCoacher folder.

Q: After PlCoacher installation I have found some folders in PlCoacher installation folder. What are they for?

In folder Settings there are critical for PlCoacher functionality files. Please, don’t modify or delete files from this folder!

In folder Tutorial there are some text files (with extention .mix and .txt). These are ordinary text files that you use when working with PlCoacher Tutorial.

Immediately after installation the folder UserDir has some subfolders but it doesn’t have any file. You can use this folder when working with Tutorial for writing there your files (what files and how to write them is explained in Tutorial).

The folder DfltRslts is PlCoacher work folder where it creates and deletes its temporary files.

In folder Text there are texts files (.mix format) that are supplied with PlCoacher. It is supposed that you can use these files to get acquaintance with PlCoacher functionality.

Q: What languages support PlCoacher?

A: Actually PlCoacher supports three interface languages (English , Russian, German). PlCoacher Help is available in two languages. (English, Russian).

Q: How can I change PlCoacher interface language?

A: Run PlCoacher. Chose command ” Settings…” in menu “File”. Dialog “PLCoacher Settings” should appear. In combo box “Interface language” chose required item from the list of available languages. Press button “OK”.

Q: How can I change PlCoacher Help language?

A: PlCoacher Help language is changed when you change interface language. So, change interface language and Help language will be changed also (if there is available Help for

Q: I have changed interface language and it really changed, but Help and Tutorial language did not change. Why?

A: It is mush easier to support interface language then help language. So some interface languages do not have corresponding Help language. That is why even if you change interface language (for example from English into German) Help language will remain unchanged (in our example it will remain English).

Q: What are the PLCoacher demo-version restrictions?

A: PLCoacher demo-version limits the number of applications starts (100 times), time period of its usage (30 days).
